Text Analysis

A number of online tools are available to analyze text and provide information about readability, grade level, word counts, and Lexile rankings.
Textalyser is a comprehensive text analyzer that provides information about complexity, reading level, word frequency and more.

Writing Tester will provide a readability score (the higher the score, the more readable the text) and grade level estimate for a piece of text.

The Readability Test Tool returns a grade level estimate and breaks it down further by providing an age range for whom the text is suitable. It reports basic stats, like word and sentence counts; average number of words per sentence and average number of syllables per word, as well as scores for a number of readability indicators (Flesh Kincaid, Gunning Fog, and others). Want everyone to know how readable your web page is? Tweet the result!

Use Wordle to create "word clouds" from text that you enter. You can change the fonts, sizes, colors and layout orientation of the clouds, as well as choose to ignore common words (i.e. personal pronouns and articles). Wordle is a creative way to analyze the important words, concepts and themes in a poem or other piece of text.
