iMovie
Apple iMovie is an easy-to-use video editing program. It's a great choice for student-produced presentations. It's desktop software, which means it's more powerful and versatile than some cloud-based programs but students will need to use the same computer the entire time they're working on their projects.
Exporting iMovie projects
iMovie projects are editable and viewable only by iMovie. To share them with others, including users of other operating systems, students will need to export their projects into another viewable format. These steps are for iMovie 09 and will produce a high-resolution .mov file, playable by the Quicktime player:
- Inside iMovie, click 'Share' and choose 'Export Using Quicktime'.
- In the dialog box, choose a file name and a location to save. The desktop is a good choice. In the 'Export' field, choose 'Movie to Quicktime Movie' and in the 'Use' field, choose 'Default Settings'.
- Click 'Save'. The export process may take several minutes or longer, depending on the project length.
